PolyJet technology offers unique possibilities in 3D printing, beginning with converting CAD designs into STL files and slicing them into cross-sections for printing. The process involves jetting and curing photopolymer material layer by layer with UV light, supplemented by support structures. This comprehensive guide covers material selection, STL file preparation, designing for multi-colored parts, and other nuances essential for flawless PolyJet printing.

Discover how PolyJet technology can transform your design and prototyping processes. With ultra-fine layer resolutions and the ability to combine multiple materials in one print, PolyJet delivers unmatched precision, vibrant colors, and lifelike textures. Elevate your projects with speed and efficiency that sets a new standard in 3D printing.
PolyJet is a 3D printing technology invented by Stratasys that jets thousands of material droplets layer by layer to create a solid 3D mode with over 500,000 unique colors, realistic texture simulation, and flexible and transparent materials. PolyJet is the fastest technology and smoothest surface in the Stratasys Direct arsenal.
PolyJet is the perfect solution for designers who want realistic models but have had to contend with inconsistent color results and rough finishes. PolyJet is capable of producing models indistinguishable from the real thing, allowing designers to incorporate texture, color, text, and fine features.
3D printing with PolyJet allows you to incorporate multiple materials into a single print resulting in quicker production of realistic parts and design iterations early in the product development life cycle.
Think of PolyJet (Monikers: Material jetting, photocuring, inkjet printing) like your home 2-D paper printer. Your 2-D color printer lays out minuscule droplets of color onto your paper, forming words and images.
In a similar fashion, PolyJet uses fine print head nozzles to deposit droplets of photocurable material in layers as fine as 16 microns (0.0006" inches) to form detailed 3-D parts.
Our engineering team uses Stratasys PolyJet software to load the file(s), at which time they will define the materials and colors used. Once the build file has the settings defined (type of machine used, materials, colors, other), then the file is sent to scheduling to get the order ready to build.
Each pass of the material jetting deposits one or more different materials including the support structure at the same time, cured as it is deposited via UV light. When one layer is cured, the build table lowers by a small increment (Z axis), then the next layer of material is deposited on top of the last layer. The process is repeated possibly thousands of times until a fully formed 3D model is manufactured.
The built parts are removed from the machine and are sent to the final step which is for support removal. The support removal is quite simple as it uses pressured water inside of a hood, where a technician sprays water across the part, with the support material dissolving into fine particles that are captured in a basket. What is left is a finely detailed part ready for your application.
